Yes the pillows are the fluffiest ever but this hotel leaves a lot to be desired. We arrived at the hotel from a Nour el Nil cruise and had heard one of the Directors of Nour el Nil, Eleonour the previous night telling other guests to certainly visit the hotel but not to eat in the hotel as the food was not good. We thought this was was just sour grapes from a fellow compeditor but actually she was spot on! We had decided not to be influenced by her and yes we thought the setting of the hotel was amazing but this place is sitting on its laurels. The food in 1902 was grim and a couple of main courses were unavailable from an already limited menu - there were 6 other people in this cavernous dining room the night we dined there..... Breakfast was ordinary . We also ate on the terrace bar on 3 occasions which was okay but the service was poor. 4 unremarkable Negronis in the bar were £100 (£60 Four Seasons Nile Plaza Cairo) Luckily our Abu Simbel trip made up for this blip in our otherwise perfect 13 day visit to Eygpt. I love Eygpt and have visited for both business and pleasure at least a dozen times over the last 10 years - sadly I will not be visiting nor recommending Old Cataract in the future.

Hotel was Amazing, just piece of advice double count your money....

Hotel was amazing, great location, Front desk staff was mega friendly. We stayed in the new tower and the rooms were big and new!!! we used the spa it was very nice (steam room was co-ad). The only thing that happened to us was the following: We ordered from the restaurant to be delivered to the room. A nice man came and we paid him in cash (Egyptian currency). He left, then came back 2 minuets later and said that we miscounted and we under paid by 1,000 pounds. I apologized and gave him the money. I could have miscounted the money, ok. Our last day we went on the terrace to have lunch, order came, we ate then bill came, again we paid in cash. What was odd this time is that the server took the money and the receipt folded them and put it in his pocket and left. Never counted the money. Came back 10 minuets later and said that we under paid him unless this is his tips. again, we counted the money and gave him the difference. We stayed in Egypt for 2 weeks and paid in cash the entire time and not once this happened to us, only in the Sofitel. I guess what I am saying is, it is not the hotel's fault, the hotel was amazing. Just if you pay in cash double count your money before you pay and ask the server to count the money infront of you and not walk away with it then come back and say you under paid.

We had an unforgettable celebration dinner at the Old Cataract Hotel’s King Fauld Corner, a private cliffside restaurant that made the evening truly special. From the moment we arrived by boat, the amazing views of the Nile captured our attention, showcasing the best of Aswan. Our dining experiences were unmatched, especially the private dinner at King Fauld Corner, where the cozy setting was enhanced by the stunning scenery. The next day, we also dined at the Oriental Kababgy, where the food was also fantastic, especially enjoyable during a Nile sunset with local music. A big thank you to Mr. Nagy, the Food & Beverage Manager, whose kindness and attention to detail made our experiences extraordinary. His planning of special celebration events made our joyful dinner even more special. His team, including Abd Elaziz, Peter, Mariam, Mohamed, Assran, and Hedra, were all extremely professional and helpful, providing just the right help whenever we needed it. Their efforts made our dinners both enjoyable and memorable. I highly recommend the Old Cataract Hotel for anyone visiting Aswan. It’s not just a place to stay, but an essential part of the Aswan experience itself.
